Shark Fun Facts

In 2009, more people were killed from being crushed by soda machines than were killed by shark attacks.

Amanzimtoti Beach in South Africa is the most dangerous beach in the world for shark attacks.

The Megamouth shark is the rarest of the shark species. It was discovered in 1976.

Bull Sharks have been seen swimming up the Mississippi River.

Sharks can sense a drop of blood from 2.5 miles away. They can detect one part of blood in 100 million parts of water.

Sharks, in their 400 million years on earth, have shown an extraordinary ability to resist cancer and other diseases.

The ostrich is often credited with laying the largest eggs, but the largest egg in the world was actually laid by a shark, the whale shark. The egg, 14 inches (36 cm) long, was found in the Gulf of Mexico in 1953.

The great white shark has 3,000 teeth at any one time. A white shark may grow and use over 20,000 teeth in its lifetime.
