Tangled, Disney's 50th animated movie, comes out today. I managed to see it in theaters and thought it was nice and honestly very pretty.

A few thing to look for/think about while you're watching the movie:

Since the first previews came out alot of people have been comparing Rapunzel to Ariel since they are both Glen Keane creations.

Girlonthemove has posted a list of Ariel/Rapunzel similarities! The most obvious to me was the parallel between the lantern scene and Kiss the Girl.

All around Rapunzel's staircase are symbols representing the other princesses. I've seen Snow White's apple so far!

Look for Pinocchion and Pumba in the pub scene.

In the bookshop there are several Disney books including the Little Mermaid!

During one scene there is a tree growing sideways on a cliff. Looks like the one in Sleeping Beauty to me.

Supposedly there are alot more hidden things so keep your eyes peeled!!

The Whale Who Wanted to Sing at the Met

You know you love Nelson Eddy as that singing whale. Back in the day instead of tapes and CDs there was vinyl, and there were of course albums just for kids (I had a ton despite the fact that tapes were readily available in my childhood.) My favorites were of course the Disney ones.  To cut to the chase, there is are several sites where people have taken their albums and made MP3s to share the music that, for some reason, Disney (and others) have not re-released. This link in particular is to the Disney Album The Whale Who Wanted to Sing at the Met.  http://www.kiddierecords.com/2006/archive/week_48.htm

Another Mermaid Sighting on the Simpsons

This past Sunday the sixteenth episode of the twenty-second season aired. A Midsummer's Nice Dreams was abou Cheech and Chong breaking up and Marge becoming a hoarder. Right at the beginning we're told Cheech and Chong will be preforming at the new Clampitheater down at the Squidport...that's right, Clampitheater! I love their silliness. The mermiads are right there on the sign! Unfortunately that's where Cheech and Chong break up and so take thier seperate shows on the road, so we don't get any more nautical nonsense and no more mermaids. Despite it's short appearance, the Clampitheater is genius. I hope we see more of it.

Pirates of the Caribbean inspired nail polish

OPI is always doing something neat for nails. This year alone they've had nail polishes inspired by Glee, and singers Katy Perry and Justin Bieber. Now they've chosen Pirates of the Caribbean for the new line! (Which I am super excited about because of the mermaids!!!)

Each shade has a cute name derived from the movie. Planks a Lot, Sparrow Me the Drama, Steady As She Rose, Skull and Glossbones, Mermaid's Tears, Stranger Tides and Silver Shatter (silver with a crackling two-tone effect.)
“OPI is thrilled to celebrate the latest film in this beloved series,” Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director, says in a press release.

“The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides lacquers were inspired by a world filled with mythical mermaids, gleaming treasure, and high-seas adventure. With shades ranging from sage and lavender to khaki gray and pastel pink, these colors are evocative of a warm, tropical setting, with a classic nautical influence.”

Also worth mentioning is the fact that these polishes will be DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde free, making them more eco-friendly.

My favorite color? Mermaid's Tears of course!

The collection ($8.50 each) will be available in May at Dillard's, JCPenney's, Regis and ULTA.

Disney Dreams photo series

Annie Leibovitz has been making celebrity dreams come true with her Disney Dreams series of photos since 2007. She's photographed Scarlett Johansson as Cinderella, Mikhail Baryshnikov as Peter Pan and a number of others. Recently three new images have been released featuring Olivia Wilde as the Evil Queen from Snow White (Alec Baldwin is the Mirror,) Penelope Cruz and Jeff Bridges as Beauty and the Beast, and a personal fave Queen Latifah as Ursula! The campaign premieres as a special insert in the April issues of O - The Oprah Magazine, People, People En Espanol, Real Simple, Essence, and InStyle.

This is of course perfect timing for the shots as Arielss Undersea Adventure is due to open very soon! (More about that very soon!)

And if you haven't seen it she also did Ariel a few years back with Julianne Moore and Micheal Phelps!
