The Little Mermaid illustrations

Over the years The Little Mermaid has been published over and over again with a variety of artists. Here's a look at some of the different interpretations.

  1. It's amazing how many times it's been published since 1837.

  2. I need a sweet, innocent mermaid picture I can use to illustrate an article I'm writing. This is on a commercial site, but I'm only getting paid by the "click" and so far have earned only pennies for this column!

If I could get just one image, it would be wonderful. If I could have a few, I could make a slide show! I would definitely link back to your site. If some of your images are from old books published before the 1920s, they would be in the public domain. Do you have any I could use?

  3. The second picture where the Little Mermaid has a orange tail is from Van Gool's The Little Mermaid illustrated by A. M. Lefevre.
