Pirates of the Caribbean 4 nets a mermaid

Astrid Bergès-Frisbey has been cast as Syrena, a "beautiful and alluring young mermaid" in the upcoming 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,' according to various movie sites. It’s supposed to be released May 20, 2011. I had promised myself I wouldn't be seeing it as I didn't like the two follow up movies, mostly thanks to Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom. Good news (for me) is that they won't be in this one, so with promise of a mermaid and the return of Geoffrey Rush, I'll probably be seeing this one in the theatre.

Okay I just learned that Megan Fox is pursuing a role that calls for a sinister mermaid. According to word on the web, Megan “would play a mermaid who charms Captain Jack but she has a dark motive."
I'm assuming that this is a different mermaid.

The synopsis: “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise –this time in Disney Digital 3D(TM). In this action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise, Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), and he’s not sure if it’s love–or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain ofYouth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.
